Customization Fuels Nobel Biocare’s Rapid International Expansion

Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Nobel Biocare is a world leader in the field of innovative implant-based dental restorations that started out in 1965 as a pioneer of modern implant-based dentistry. In 2012, they launched their new “Brilliant at the basics” strategy to help dentists around the world improve the quality of care and service they offer patients, and they needed a fully customizable eCommerce solution to help them do it.

Nobel Biocare’s main goal was to rapidly expand sales globally by launching 16 international sites (in seven different languages) that would service more than 30 countries. To do this, they chose Magento Gold Solution Partner Pixafy to develop their Magento Enterprise Edition multi-site store, with numerous custom modules and integrations with existing technologies, including Salesforce, dynaTrace, and Paymetric.

Pixafy notes that this is their largest build on Enterprise Edition, and this is primarily due to the amount of data Nobel Biocare processes to run their business. Customers enter through different gateways for each country, and they are privy to enhanced online shopping features such as product catalog capabilities, cart price rules, better tracking of orders in transit, and multiple payment methods, including lines of credit.

Nobel Biocare’s accessories functionality is also quite sophisticated and data heavy because it’s cross referenced with product law. Dentists are shown only the accessories that the law (in their country) requires them to use with each product, so the information needs to be thorough and accurate. To help further, Pixafy also developed RFID tags for Nobel Biocare that notify dentists when it’s time for them to reorder.

The ability to rapidly deploy new sites that can handle complex system and customer data has enabled Nobel Biocare to capture new markets and sales at a competitive pace. “The new Online Store enabled our customers to do e-business with us in a simple and robust way,“ says Cristian Corotto, Head of Online Channel for Nobel Biocare. Since Pixafy helped them move to Magento Enterprise Edition, they’ve seen a 20% jump in AOV and site traffic, 24% growth in sales online and they can launch a new site in less than one week, empowering them to leverage the technology to achieve their ambitious business goals.
