In-home Automation Reseller Turns to Magento 2.0 to Light Up Its International Presence

Beaumotica is one of the largest online Philips Hue resellers in the Benelux Domótica or home tech market, providing designer mood lighting featuring in-home automation technologies.

As an early technology adopter with plans for further international expansion beyond their Netherlands-based site, the opportunity to build their new English-language .com site using Magento 2.0 was too much to resist. Magento Gold Solution Partner, MediaCT, recommended using Magento 2.0 as the foundation for their international expansion because it offered a next-generation, flexible platform with a strong roadmap and would give them hands-on experience with the new platform before migrating their existing site to Magento 2.0 and creating other market-specific sites.

“When Beaumotica decided to expand internationally and add an English .com site, Magento 2.0 was the best choice for us. The platform was built for scalability and performance and would prepare us for international growth,” said Henry Van Der Borg, Managing Director, Beaumotica.

The new theming and layout framework will also make it easier to create and manage content in multiple languages for their sites (Dutch and English). Initially the team had considered using a separate product-category management system, but they ultimately decided to use the out-of-box capabilities of Magento 2.0, which is well suited to maintaining multiple sites in multiple languages as the business expands to other countries.

The new Magento Admin, with a modern wide-screen design, gave them a much more efficient way to manage day-to-day tasks, such as updating products and processing orders, as their online presence expands. Admin and backend enhancements in Magento 2.0 made it easier to import and export products, add attributes, and create custom catalog views. For example, Beaumotica set up a filtered view to show products with missing descriptions to make it simple for copywriters to identify content gaps. This makes the site easier to manage, especially now that they need to maintain content in more languages than before.

As a brand, Beaumotica is all about creating experiences – in home and online. Beaumotica’s business model relies almost entirely on eCommerce and the new website needed to support their vision of an exceptional online experience. The team was looking for a flexible platform that could support their performance requirements while being easy and efficient to design, build and manage. They were not disappointed.

“Magento 2.0 is the perfect choice for technology moving forward. As a solution partner of Magento, we see a shift in the market and want to be on the leading edge of technology adoption. Magento 2.0 offers new possibilities to innovate the online shopping experience of Beaumotica,” said Tjitte Folkertsma, Founder and CCO of MediaCT.

To enhance their online shopping experience, the team leveraged the native checkout process in Magento 2.0 to streamline checkout for their customers. In addition, they used the new responsive design themes to build an entirely responsive site that is more fluid and seamless across all devices from phones to tablets and desktops.

The ability to have separate databases for order management, product management and checkout allows the site to scale independently to meet different load requirements. The pre-integrated Varnish caching has had a significant impact on performance. The team expects this to have a positive impact on page load times and conversions, leading to improved business results for the site.

With Magento 2.0, Beaumotica has taken a significant step forward in enabling international growth and the strong roadmap of new functionality planned for the platform will further contribute to their ongoing success across markets.
