International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Why does diversity matter? According to Women Who Code, diverse teams perform better by increasing collective intelligence and companies with the highest representation of women leadership have seen a 34% higher ROI than those with few or no women. To us, that sounds like something every company and industry would want to get behind.
At Magento, accelerating gender parity is important to us and we want to share with you what we’re working on in our company, in our industry, and in our ecosystem to do our part.
Diversity in our Company
As with any change, diversity starts with ourselves. Magento is driving several internal initiatives centered around inclusion and ensuring equal opportunities for women across the company. This ranges from ensuring a balanced slate of candidates for every open position to setting criteria for women holding senior positions. Diversity in our Industry
We’re also committed to diversity in our industry. Currently, our role here is through a partnership with Women Who Code. If you’re not familiar with Women Who Code, they are a global non-profit dedicated to inspiring women to excel in technology careers. The Women Who Code organization works to support this generation in being and becoming leaders and role models in the tech industry. Since 2011, Women Who Code has connected over 80,000 women globally, produced 4,200 free technical events in 20 countries and awarded over $1,000,000 in educational scholarships and tickets.
We’re working with Women Who Code to connect our respective networks and develop opportunities for deeper dialogue and collaboration. We look forward to sharing more details soon.
Diversity in our Ecosystem
Our third area of focus on diversity is in our ecosystem. We’re developing a panel on Increasing Diversity in Tech at Imagine 2017. Our goal is to not only hear from those in our ecosystem on how they’ve worked to increase inclusion in their companies but to also open the dialogue about how we can work together throughout 2017 and beyond. During this panel, our Chief HR Officer, Francesca Molinari will be talking with:
