Magento 2 Updates Enhance User Experience, Performance, and Quality
December 14, 2016
Getting the details right in eCommerce matters. Small adjustments to a page, removing a checkout step, and even simplifying shipping label printing can have an oversized impact on the shopper experience and your bottom line.
Magento’s latest software updates include new features and enhancements that help you get the details right. Enhancements throughout the product remove points of friction for both shoppers and merchants, enabling faster and more profitable commerce.
New Payment Functionality
A range of new PayPal and Braintree features empower you to streamline purchases and business processes. Enhancements enable you to:
Increase conversion rates by allowing customers to save their PayPal account as a payment option. This means they can bypass entering their PayPal ID and password in future checkouts.
Boost sales by permitting unregistered customers to reorder without having to re-enter their credit card information. Merchants can now bill the last payment method used during a guest checkout.
Reduce chargebacks and support calls by customizing the business name, phone number and URL that appear on credit card statements for each of your websites using Braintree.
Protect your business from accidently shipping products to high-risk customers with a new process that requires you to confirm the Braintree risk decision before proceeding with an order.
Performance and Feature Improvements
In addition to the new payment functionality, there are updates that enhance Magento 2 performance and quality in multiple areas. For example, SQL media queries have been optimized to boost storefront performance and compilation and static asset creation is faster. Managing configurable products with hundreds of variations in the Admin is also much faster: generating a grid or saving a list of product variants takes only seconds to complete.
Improvements have also been made to configurable product management, CSV file importing and exporting, and the upgrade process from Magento 2.0.x to Magento 2.1.x when multiple master databases are in use. A full list of fixes and enhancements is available in the release notes.
These updates are another example of our commitment to continually improving product quality and empowering our merchants with efficient and user-friendly tools to deliver unique and engaging shopping experiences.
