Magento Documentation Anytime You Need It

Over the past year, we have made significant improvements to Magento user guides. What began as a reorganization of the content last spring was part of a larger effort to publish directly to the cloud. For the first time, the user guides for both Magento Enterprise Edition and Magento Community Edition are available online, in an accessible and easy-to-use format. You’ll find the same great information in the online (HTML) and offline (PDF) user guides, so you can use the format that you prefer.  Here are a few things to look for:

Display Modes

The online guide has a responsive layout with three different display modes. If you resize the window, the format adjusts to the dimensions of a desktop, notebook, and smart phone.

On a desktop, the navigation appears on the left with tabs for Contents, Index, and Glossary. On a notebook or smart phone, the navigation is hidden from view and you can click the Slide Out button in the header to display the navigation.

The Contents tab is organized into main sections that cover every aspect of running your store. You can explore the topics through the table of contents, or use the Next and Previous buttons in the upper-right corner to page through the content. And don’t forget the Index and Glossary tabs! You can also use the Related Topics link in the upper-right corner to find other topics on the subject.

Use the Search box in the header to generate a list of topics with text that matches your search term. In the matching topics, every instance of the term is highlighted. For multiple words, each appears in a different color. To restore the normal display, simply click the Remove Highlights button in the header.

To provide quick overviews of what’s on a page, we have made drop-down sections more flexible. Use drop-down sections for topics with multiple sets of instructions, multiple reference sections, and workflows. To expand all drop-downs on the page, or return them to a collapsed state, click the Expand All / Collapse All button in the header.

You can click a screenshot to zoom in for a closer view. Then, click it again to return to the original size.

Slideshows make it easy to present a quick overview of new features to colleagues and partners.

Mini Guides

Do you ever get tired of trying to find your way through a thousand-page PDF? For your convenience, the content is also available as five separate PDF mini guides. On the Contents tab, the first page of each section has links to the full guide and the corresponding mini guide. Simply click the download link to open the PDF in your browser. You can also right-click the download link to save the file to your computer.

We are committed to delivering quality documentation that is well-written, well-organized and easy to follow. Please share your feedback directly with our documentation team and send your comments and suggestions to:

Our online documentation will always reflect the current release of the product. However, if you need documentation for a previous release, log in to your Magento account. For Magento Enterprise Edition, the documentation downloads are located in the Support section. We are in the process of setting up a similar download section for our Magento Community Edition users.
